Famous for uttering the words during Apollo 13, "Farewell, Aquarius, and we thank you," Joe Kerwin was a NASA astronaut, the first physician to be selected for astronaut training, and the first doctor to go to space. He served as a science pilot for Skylab 2 from May 25th to June 22nd, 1973. He was also in the Navy Medical Crops, becoming a Captain and logging over 4,500 hours in flying time. He earned his flight surgeon's wings.
